GATC Biotech purchases second Illumina HiSeq 2000

GATC Biotech today announced the acquisition of an additional Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing platform. The new system will be ready for production within July, just a few months after the first system has been successfully taken into operation. Due to the high cost-effectiveness and sequencing output the company uses the HiSeq 2000 systems mainly for sequencing pediatric brain tumors within the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), for large population studies and complex screenings of mutations which cause rare diseases. The new acquisition increases GATC Biotech's sequencing capacity to nearly twenty terabases per year.
