GATC to sequence up to 100 human genomes by 2010!

Previous publicly funded human genome projects have generated an unprecedented amount of knowledge about human genetics. Today, it's about finding genetic clues that will lead to improved diagnostics and better drug development, even personalising medicine - moving away from the current ‘one-drug-suits-all’ approach.

Still, nobody is rushing out for a personal DNA analysis. The first human genome took 12 years and cost over 3 billion US$. Today, the costs have fallen to about 5 million per genome and the time needed for sequencing has dropped to a few years.

GATC is dedicated to helping bring down the cost of genome sequencing further and to provide a clearer picture of the human genome.

Sequencing many individual human genomes is the first step in realising our vision of the "500-Euro-human genome" within the next 10 years.

With nearly two decades of experience in DNA sequencing and bioinformatics, having sequenced close to 100 microbial genomes, GATC is uniquely positioned to drive rapid human genome sequencing and to contribute to this visionary project.

Therefore, GATC offers its DNA analysis expertise and sequencing capacity to strategic partners from academia & industry, and to private pioneers that are interested in sequencing up to 100 human genomes by the end of 2010 within an early-access program.

Sequencing will be completed using next-generation sequencing technologies in combination with high-end bioinformatic solutions which will substantially decrease the overall costs.
