Max Planck Society purchases Site Licence for DNASTAR software New version 6 of DNASTAR’s Lasergene software released
Constance (March 14th, 2005) - GATC Biotech, a leading One-Stop-Shop provider of custom molecular biology services for industry and academia in Europe, and the Max Plack Society signed a broad licence agreement for the software products from DNASTAR, Inc., Madison, WI, which are distributed by GATC Europe-wide.
The Max Planck Society purchased a site licence for the whole software package of DNASTAR, comprising Lasergene 6, the latest major upgrade to the expert DNA and protein sequence analysis software, StarBlast, a searching tool based on a customized DNA and protein sequence database, and GenVision, a visualisation tool for large DNA sequences including entire genomes. This provides all participating research departements of the Max Planck Institutes with access to the software and GATC’s technical support until 2008.
Peter Langer of the administrative headquarters, who is responsible for purchasing corporation-wide software licenses, is pleased with the successful conclusion: “Lasergene is a comprehensive, easy to use suite of tools for molecular biologists and geneticists used in the analysis of DNA and protein sequences. The new capabilities of the latest version 6 greatly enhance the researchers’ efficiency.”
Lasergene 6 introduces a new module, SeqBuilder, that facilitates the creation of plasmid maps and exporting of presentation quality graphics into a variety of graphical and presentation software applications. Along with SeqBuilder comes the ability to share data among other Lasergene 6 modules: scientists can modify data in one module and immediately see the changes in other modules. The scripting functions of SeqMan II, the assembly tool of the package, allow for the automatic assembly of projects of any size. With only one licence of the network version the software can be accessed from any number of computers, both PC and Macintosh.
About the Max Planck Society The Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science is one of the largest independent, non-profit research organizations in Germany that primarily promotes and supports research at its own institutes. The 78 research institutes of the Max Planck Society perform basic research in the interest of the general public in the natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.
